Blast Off!

Writer: Alan BlatterAlan Blatter

Troop 270 scouts are working to earn the Space Exploration Merit Badge. Over the course of four Merit Badge sessions at troop meetings, they will learn about the history and science of rockets, and space missions. This learning experience will culminate at our end of March campout, during which scouts will build and launch their own rockets.

The goals of the Space Ex MB are to:

  • Discover the why and how we explore space

  • Learn about current and historic space systems

  • Design a future station to survive on other worlds

  • Learn about the careers that make space exploration possible

  • BUILD AND LAUNCH YOUR OWN ROCKET!

Led aby Assistant Scoutmaster and Space Ex Merit Badge Counselor, Alan Blatter, and with the support of our other leaders, we will guide the scouts through this exciting learning journey.

In our first class, scouts learned about the history of space flight and the pioneers who made it happen. In the second class, they learned how rockets work, then built and tested multi-stage balloon rockets.
