Terrific Tuesday (Day 3)

Updated: Aug 1

It was a hot one today...and I mean hot, over 100 deg F heat index. Thankfully our scouts have been heeding our advice to keep drinking and staying hydrated. So, we all made it through and had a ton of fun along the way. Scroll down for great pics and also videos. Thank you to Mr. Linnetz and Mr. O'Neill for getting around camp to get these great memories. (Thank you to Mr. McCoy for just getting around camp with our scouts ... always with his towel, mostly.)

Our day started with a pleasant surprise as Cameron (our former SPL) visited with his mom on his way to Drum Major Academy in Massachusetts. Cameron and Doria joined Troop 270 in the dining hall for breakfast. He not only brought smiles but also some good luck (and some tactics) to help his table nab the Silver Spoon award. Good luck at DMA Cam! After breakfast, the day continued with Merit Badges, and scouts finally getting into the meaty content of their classes. I attended a QPR class on suicide prevention, which was excellent (reach out to learn more).

Breakfast Surprise and Morning Merit Badges

  • Henry and Simon at Auto Maintenance

  • Liam at Personal Management

  • Sam and Logan at Personal Fitness

  • Elliott at Lifesaving

  • Logan and Liam at Swimming

  • Caden at Wilderness Patrol

  • Simon at Home Repair

  • Sam at Geology

  • Sandor, Quinten, and Leo at Environmental Science

  • Simon at Graphic Arts

After lunch, Henry corralled the Troop to ensure scouts had a plan for fun activities and ensured we had coverage for Camp Challenges, some of which are captured in the pictures below.

Then it was off to one more Merit Badge class and then free time, where many of the scouts (and leaders) opted for the Waterfront. A swim in the lake was certainly a welcome reprieve from the heat.

At dinner, a couple of scouts received some nice care packages. After dinner, many of the scouts headed over to the range for Cowboy Action Rifle shooting. Mr. McCoy and I joined them in shooting fun targets with lever action Henry rifles. Sam and Leo participated in Eco Jeopardy, one of the Camp Challenges.

Afternoon in the heat and Evening fun

  • Caden at Rifle Shooting range

  • Troop in "Mitchell" pose with congrats to Billy and Connor, our newest Eagle Scouts

  • Ecology lead staff Bobby showing off the worlds largest species of legless lizard

  • Cowboy Action shoot with Sandor, Liam, Logan, Henry, Mr. McCoy, and Mr. Blatter

EVENING ROLLCALL
We love care packages!
Lifesaving MB Class
Sharp Shooter!
Cowboy Action!

The night ended with much needed showers and most of the scouts headed to bed early. Wednesday is looking to be another hot day, but perhaps with some relief with afternoon clouds or showers.
