Camp day 1- Check in and settling in

Everything went smoothly for our first afternoon and evening at camp. After everyone arrived, we took a tour of the camp which included orientation for the target ranges, boating, waterfront, and the dining hall. While at the waterfront, a handful of our scouts took their swim tests. Attendance at camp this week is relatively light, partially due to the National Jamboree happening. So we should have plenty of opportunity to take part in the open activities later this week.
After tour, we lined up for our first evening flag cermony, the lowering of the flags, and then dinner- roast beef, roasted potatotes, Italian bread, salad and green beans. And for dessert- ICE CREAM SANDWICHES!
After dinner we had a little down time to relax, then we were off to the opening campfire ceremony where we were entertained by the staff with at least a dozen skits. The photos below are mostly from the "Penguin Salute" skit, one of my favorites and probably the favorite of the night for the scouts. Sorry I wasn't able to get snaps of everyone, but tomorrow the leaders will split up to capture scouts throughout the day for a more robust blog post and photo album.
A good number of scouts are planning to take a dip in the lake at 6:30 am (the polar plunge challenge), breakfast at 8, then we'll be in our first merit badge sessions by 9. I was able to check in with several of the new scouts today, and will continue to do so tomorrow. So far so good!
